This week we discussed the value and variety of videos in a classroom. As I am doing my personal inquiry, I can remember a number of documentaries we watched at the end of a unit almost as a reward. For some reason watching a documentary on the material was so much more engaging. Everyone loves watching interesting TED talks or CrashCourse but as a future teacher, I worried using videos in the class would be a cheat. Growing up I heard about teachers who barely understood their own course material and put on videos in hopes that would do a better job teaching than themselves. On the other hand, I remember an upper-level science teacher who recorded all his classes and released them for students to review if needed. After this week I’ve learned some great responsible ways to incorporate and even create my own educational videos for my class to use.
